10 ways to wear a silk scarf

Art

Silk scarves are timeless and versatile accessories that can be styled in many ways, be it on your hair, neck or even adorning your handbag. You can add a pop of colour to your everyday or office outfits. Below you can learn ten ways to wear a silk scarf to look stylish and sophisticated every day.

1. The head wrap

Whether you’re having a bad hair day or want to wear a fun accessory, wrapping your silk scarf around your hair is an interesting and easy way to style it.

How to wear a silk scarf as a neck wrap: fold the square scarf in half to create a triangle, wrap it around the back of your head, so the two long ends are at the front. The tip of the triangle should be on top of your head. Twist the long ends once on top of the triangle tip and tie at the back of the head. Roll the tip of the triangle on top of the twist and hide it underneath. Hide the knot at the back of your neck under the fabric.

2.The hair tie

There are many ways to wear a silk scarf on your hair. One of my favourite way is to twist it around a bun.

How to wear a silk scarf as a hair tie: First style your hair into a messy bun and secure it with an elastic band. Then tie the silk scarf around it making sure that both ends of the scarf are symmetrical.

3. The neck tie

Another cool way to wear a silk scarf is around the neck as a tie. This look works with t-shirts and open-neck tops like the one I’m wearing in the picture.

How to wear a silk scarf as a neck tie: Fold the silk scarf into a triangle and roll it up. Wrap it around the neck, securing it with a knot on the front side. If you have a long silk scarf, you can wrap it twice around your neck to get short tails. You can also place the knot of the scarf sideways or on the back of the neck.

4. Traditional Headscarf

This is a great way of adding interest to a modest outfit and to keep your hair under control on windy days.

How to wear a silk scarf as headscarf: To get this look fold the square scarf in half to create a triangle, drape it over your head, deciding how much hair to expose. Tie a knot under the chin for option one, or cross the two ends around the neck and tie a knot at the back of the neck for option two. An oversized scarf works best for this look

5. The twisted headband

I love wearing my silk scarves as headbands because they frame my face and I can mix and match with dresses or other kinds of outfits.

How to wear a silk scarf as a knotted hair band: fold your silk scarf into a triangle and roll it into a thin strip. Wrap the scarf around the back of your head, so the two ends are in the front. Twist the ends around each other once, and wrap the ends around the back of your head.

Option 2: roll the silk scarf into a band and tie it at the back of your head to keep your hair in place.

6. The belt

Tying a silk scarf loosely around the waist of your trousers is one of the easiest way to upgrade your favourite pair of denim. Pair it with a simple T-shirt and you have a stylish everyday outfit.

7. The Simple Drape

A super easy way to add texture and colour to a monochromatic outfit.

8.The bag accent

You can make your bags look different by texture and colour with a silk scarf. There are many ways to style it, so have fun.

9. Neck wrap

This is a good idea to keep warm on chilly days or when the air-con is too strong.

10. Woven into a braid

This is creative way to mix up a braid—replacing one of the sections with a silk scarf. This works for both French and Dutch braids if you want to try different styles; remember to use bobby pins to hold the scarf in place if it starts to slip.

How to wear a silk scarf woven into a braid: roll the silk scarf into a band and tie it at the back of your head. Hold both ends in one hand and start to braid your head replacing one of the strands with the ends of the silk scarf. Secure the braid with an elastic band and twist the ends of the scarf over it for a seamless look.
