Why New Year's Resolutions Don't Work (And What You Can Do Instead!)
Every year as December comes to an end, people make resolutions to improve their lives in the new year. But let's be honest, how many of us actually stick to those resolutions? Not many. One of the reasons why New Year resolutions don't work is because they tend to be generic and not tailored to our specific situation.
So, instead of making resolutions, why not choose a word that will inspire you to work towards your goals?
For example, if you want to stop procrastinating on social media and want to become more creative, your word for the year could be creativity.
Every time you're making choices about how to spend your time, you can remember that you want to be more creative instead of spending all your time doomscrolling. When you're faced with the decision to either open up Instagram or paint a picture or write something, you can think of your word "creativity" and choose the option that aligns with that.
Over time, you'll find yourself becoming more creative and spending less time on social media.
Or let's say that you want to make a big change in your life, like starting a new job, moving to a new country, or studying something new. These kinds of changes can be really difficult and take a lot of time and effort. But the rewards can be really great too. It takes a lot of courage to make a big change like this, and you might face a lot of challenges along the way. But if you choose courage as your word for the year, you can remind yourself that you have the strength to overcome those challenges.
My word for this year was 'patience'. Sometimes when I’m feeling low in my work life, I go down the rabbit hole of social media and end up comparing my experience with what other people are sharing (comparing my lows to their highs), which can make me feel discouraged when things don't go the way I want them to. By choosing 'patience' as my word, I’ve been able to remind myself that it's okay to take things at my own pace, to take a big breath when things don’t go my way and that sometimes the best things in life take time.
To wrap things up, I’d like to invite you to explore my new collection of miniature paintings Symbols of Nature. Each painting is inspired by the strength and beauty found in nature, and serves as a heartfelt symbol of encouragement and support, reminding us of our inner strength to chase our dreams and overcome any obstacles that may come our way.
May these symbols of strength, love, and joy bring you the inspiration and courage you need to navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience.
